Rules

The Board of Governors has formulated Rules of Conduct to ensure that Pittstown Trail Association members do not abuse the privilege of riding on private or public properties. Membership may be revoked for violation.

  • Respect, at all times, the rights of the property owners across whose lands we are permitted to ride. Remember that you are a guest on the land. When you meet landowners, introduce yourself, be courteous, and let them know how much you appreciate the pleasure they are providing you. One irresponsible person can cause a trail's closing.
  • Ride the PTA trails only. Do not wander from designated trails. Stay on the edge of farmers' fields.
  • Observe all trail signs
  • Do not use any landowner's schooling facilities, jumps, rings, training tracks, playing fields, etc.
  • When you must open a gate to pass through, be sure to close it behind you.
  • Group riding is limited to a maximum of 6 horses.
  • Observe safe and proper riding etiquette.
  • Keep your horse under control at all times. Parents are responsible for deciding if their children are experienced enough to ride safely on the trails.
  • Parents are responsible for the behavior and actions of their children when the latter are riding on the trails.
  • Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trails. Our trails are for equestrian use only.
  • DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED to accompany riders.
  • Do not litter the trails. If you rode in with it, ride out with it.
  • Have your membership identification tag visible to landowners at all times when riding the trails. If you are challenged apologize and leave, then call your PTA president.
  • For safety's sake, all riders MUST WEAR AN APROVED ASTMI HARD HAT and proper riding shoes or boot when riding the trails.
  • NO SMOKING ON ANY PTA TRAIL!
  • Be considerate of landowners' privacy. Keep your voice down. Walk your horse on any driveway or trail that passes close to a house or a pasture with livestock.
  • Participate actively in trail maintenance and PTA activities - it's essential to ensuring PTA's success.
  • Helmet's must be worn on any PTA trails at all times.
